mushroom hunting

Our yard has always been known to have a few morel mushrooms that pop up in the spring. Maybe it's because years ago a tree was taken out and there was a lot of leftover bark decomposing, or maybe we're just lucky! But the other day, I was sitting in the outdoor kitchen and glanced up to see 2 'molly moochers' (as some people call them) staring at me. I immediately posted a photo on Facebook because I needed to brag to someone. Ted came straight home and suggested we go walk around in the woods.
I really love our east Lawrence woods. There are several trails to take, and we saw a turtle and snake sunning themselves. Finn was really excited to touch both. But we had a nice walk, and we ended up finding about a pound of mushrooms by the time we circled the trail loop. Plus the 2 already in the fridge at home, and we had enough to bring over and grill at our friends' house.

I've been working a lot in the backyard over the past few days. Almost everything except the peppers, tomatoes, cucumbers, and basil are planted. Oh, and zinnias! I planted, wait for it...........63 sunflowers! along the fence line. That is sure going to be something to see if they all come up.

In the house, I've been painting the doorways/doors because we really put some marks on them over the past 5 years. No more marker lines though, woohoo! Now to keep the boys from doing it for the rest of the time we're here.

Things are looking like we'll be moving sometime next month. I need to make sure and hit up some of these iconic Lawrence places one last time before we leave though: TerreBonne (I need a t-shirt from here), Beautiful Music (t-shirt for sure, and a new sticker for our van!), Little Saigon (It's a shame we just discovered this gem), and I'm sure there are way more that I'm not thinking of but it's bed-time for me!
Toodle loo! And fare thee well,

jaylyn

Rain Weekend

Pretty lazy weekend around here. We've been getting a bunch of rain, so we didn't spend much time out of the house. Yesterday the boys and I were planning on going to the farmers market, but we did a drive by and saw that only about 5 tents were still set up, and they looked like they were about to pack up due to the rain. We went downtown and shopped instead. Briggs and Finn spent the rest of the afternoon opening and shutting their new umbrellas. Somehow they're not broken yet! Max has been blowing bubbles with his spit, and he gurgles/giggles when he sees me watching him doing it. To think, only 3 months ago he was a sleeping slug!

Is that not the cutest little tush ever?!

Too many hobbies, not enough time

I really don't know why I decide to start a new hobby ever month or so, but alas, I am adding another one. I have to go pick up my hoop tomorrow! I got a sparkly, glow-in-the-dark, every color of the rainbow hula hoop that I am pumped to try out. This hoop is weighted (not intended for hoop dance necessarily) and I plan to exercise with it. So, that will be something that I can do while I'm watching the boys play outside. I tried to keep up with them on my roller blades, but I just keep crashing. For some reason, blading around was way easier when I was 10.

Fiddling is going well. I'm learning all about the "fiddle shuffle" pattern, slurring my notes together, and practicing a G arpeggio. Some days I don't get any practice in at all, but I'm okay with that. Ted ordered me some new books with play-along cds: Lord of the Rings, Lindsey Stirling, and a bluegrassy folksy book. They will probably all be over my head, but I'm excited to look through them and give them a try.

I've been wanting to start on a needle felting project for Max (a baby mobile thingy) but I just haven't had the time.

Fare Thee Well,

Morehice Meet-up

It's a new year, and I do feel refreshed and energized! I think that's partly due to this past week of reflection, rest...
